More than 30 years ago in Greensboro, North Carolina, the first member of the Best family came into existence. Best Cartage started with humble beginnings, operating with only two drivers and two trucks.
In 1986, the growing demand for transportation and shipping outside of Best Cartage’s southeastern service area prompted CEO David Reich to create a new, second business. Operating under a full-service third party brokerage model, domestic based Reich Transportation (now Best Logistics) posed a simple question to its customers: “What do you need shipped?” Followed by an equally simple answer, “Yes, we can handle that.”
In the early nineties, Best Cartage was up to 12 trucks and business kept growing. Wasting little time, founder David Reich jumped on an opportunity to enhance customer service offerings by purchasing a 225,000-square-foot warehouse that would serve as a distribution and transportation hub for all of Best’s operations. Headquarters was established in Kernersville, North Carolina and Best Distribution joined the ranks of the growing business group.
In 2001, Best bought H&W Trucking out of Huntington, West Virginia and subsequently signed a significant railroad contract that pushed the company to double in size over the next three years. As a result of this growth, Best Dedicated was incorporated in 2004, beginning modestly with two trucks. (Today that fleet numbers over 100!) That same year, Asian Link Logistics, a Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier, was formed (now Best Global), expanding Best’s transportation management services to every corner of the globe.
Today, as an ever adaptable, single-source transportation provider, Best Logistics Group offers more than 300 trucks, 800 trailers, a distribution warehouse and tons upon tons of heavy haul and specialized equipment (Best Specialized). And that’s not even counting the international network.
